At Rare Thing, custom work is at the heart of what we do. Whether you have old jewellery tucked away in a drawer, inherited pieces that don’t quite feel like you, or a completely new idea you’d love to bring to life — we specialise in thoughtfully re-working old gold and stones into something meaningful, beautiful, and made to last.

We work slowly, carefully, and collaboratively. This isn’t mass-produced jewellery — it’s personal, considered, and made just for you.

Wedding & engagement rings

For engagement and wedding rings, we start with a consultation — either in the shop or over Zoom — to talk through:

• Your ideas and style

• Stones and materials

• Budget and timescale

From there, we’ll design the piece together and guide you through the process step by step. There is more information about the engagement and wedding ring process here. The average lead time for engagement rings is around 6 weeks from design approval to collection, but if you’re working to a tighter deadline, let us know — we’ll always do our best to help.

Re-working old jewellery

If you have gold, gemstones, or heirloom pieces you’d like to re-use, we can melt, remake, and re-design them into something new.

This might be:

• An engagement ring made from inherited gold

• A modern piece created from several sentimental items

• A redesign of something you love the idea of, but never quite wear

We’ll talk through what you like, what you don’t, and what matters to you — then design something that feels right for you now.
